Country life

My main inspiration for the paintings in this exhibition was the area in which I was raised. I get great enjoyment when painting the river Suir and the surrounding environment, much of which is farmland. With the animals and birds, I attempt to portray individuality and personality in their expressions and enjoy working with colour and shading to bring this out.
Whilst rural Ireland is my inspiration, my paintings are generally ageless, in that they could have been executed in any decade over the last few centuries. There is little of the modern in them, which I think harks back to my original interest in painting vintage still life and my feelings of nostalgia for earlier times.
